The long anticipated weekend in Raleigh finally
arrived. Not sure what is the highlight in Raleigh/Durham: could it be
dinner at the favorite of all Satch restaurants – the Angus Barn? Could
it be golf in Durham or god forbid, Southern Pines? Cirque du Soleil? Or
just having hotel sex????
Well, the reason we keep coming back is that you can
do all of these in 3 short days and nights!!!! Note to Satches and
visitors to this site, do yourself a favor….arrive Friday
night into RDU around 5pm….go directly! And I
mean directly to the Angus Barn for dinner; do not pass go. You can
actually leave the airport and be in, without a doubt, one of the finest
and laid back restaurants in all the world in literally 5 minutes!!!!
That’s what Satches do, and I’m telling you, there is
no better restaurant as far as food, wine, service, ambience, and bar in
the entire country. Ask for Joel the waiter, Hank or Kevin the
sommeliers, have a drink or several in the Wild Turkey Lounge, and sit
back and prepare to be pampered. Ask Hank or Kevin to surprise you with a
recommendation from their 30, 000 bottle cellar-don’t worry, they will
steer you to something extremely affordable and excellent. Or have one of
your most excellent Satch friends, call up and surprise you…..AGAIN, with
a bottle of Jordan or Silver Oak!!! Thanks JW for another outstanding
surprise!!!! Word to the wise though, make sure you have a designated
driver, or they will follow you out to the parking lot to make sure you
are ok….thanks Angus Barn, and thanks Chit for loving O’Douls so much!!!
Checking into the Washington Duke hotel, was
apparently pretty funny….although I don’t remember it!!! I do remember it
was a pretty snooty place, although very nice, and worthy of Satches.
Hotel sex, of course, was on the menu, and a staggering walk in the
moonlight after is always enjoyable. It really is an awesome hotel, but
we were there for more Cirque du Soleil, sex and
golf---Cirque RDU was visually awesome, music excellent, but the crew made
lots of mistakes and I would say this wasn’t up to par with Cirque, O, or
Varekai…..Did I say that the golf was lousy….very wet and soggy, and we
decided to not play the second day there…..can anyone say “lets go to Mid
Pines?”
Off we went early Sunday morning, made our 9:45 tee
time on the favorite of all Satch golf courses and venues. Totally
beautiful condition, great weather, and so very peaceful. Satch again
commits to self that this is where he wants to retire, and be the starter
upon his start of geezerdom. Both Satches didn’t play their best, and
Chit and Chat walked all 18 holes. But man, what a great day. One Satch
even met 4 new best friends….can you say bonehead played to the wrong
green…see picture for proof!!! Very sad to leave our friends and this
most special of places. But, we’ll be back……Angus and Mid
Pines….there is no better way to spend a weekend…..that is unless
you are heading to Lake Tahoe!!!!
