There was something up our sleeves for our friend
Chit this weekend. To pay back for her awesome surprise of Richard Petty
driving school, the gang decided to play a fast one and surprise her back
for Nascar Atlanta. Arriving into Hartsfield, Satch and Chit made our way
outside to pick up the ‘rental car’----however, awaiting us with the big
red Tahoe was Chat and Hack!!! Needless to say a scream was let out and
Chit and Chat were off and running doing their thing!
Off we went for an adult beverage or two and Cirque
du Soleil’s version of Varekai. Excellent show, with many comments being
made of how we all need to get trapeze’s in our bedrooms for a little fun
and “how the hell do they do that?” From Cirque off we went for a most
excellent dinner at one of Atlanta’s finest eateries, Chops. A 4 star
rating on the Satch scale! Greasing the Maitre De always is recommended
on a Saturday night, we got right in, had a great table, great service,
excellent grub, and vino was plentiful. We took it fairly easy, checked
into our comp hotel in Buckhead and got jiggy with it early so that we
could make the obligatory Hackler 6am pre-race wakeup call.
Sunday morning was cool and clear as we made our way
to the Cracker Barrel 400. We had to have been among the first 100
people to the track, but that was ok. Captain’s was pouring freely,
jocularity was being had, and the portajohn’s (bring your own TP) were
actually acceptable. We got great parking, ventured to the track for some
pre-race shopping and picture taking in front of the 48 car and at the
trailers. Chit made quite the splash with both Jamie MacMurray and Casey
Mears, who now have restraining orders out against her…..step away from
the drivers ma’am!!!
Lets go
racing!!!!! Boogitty, Boogitty, Boogitty!!! Chit and Satch had awesome
seats---sorry Hackler’s we ain’t ever going up your steps again!!! Race
was clean, no wrecks though. Bobby Labonte the winner. As always, we
left early to beat the rush….another Hackler tradition, and boy was he
right. Long day, early morning and home to H town; while the Hacks drove
back to Charlotte. See you next year in Atlanta….a great time, and a new
tradition!!!!
