Satch and
Satch New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival
After an almost 8 year layoff, Satches Nads and Ooops
made the journey to the New Orleans Jazz Fest.
These two N’awlins Experts’ once again journeyed to sin city
together to listen to great music, eat wonderful food, and otherwise try
to get in as much trouble as possible without getting thrown in jail!
Arriving Friday morning in hot sticky
N’awlins, we checked into the Riverside Hilton on free passes.
Great room on concierge level caused many high fives as we grazed
at the concierge buffet. After
hangin at the Gospel and Blues Tents, we ventured to main stage and staked
out some prime real estate. We
were not denied as first Wayne Toups, then Marcia Ball, and finally Bonnie
Raitt rocked our world. Marcia
was rockin and shakin that foot of hers, and Bonnie was tremendous!
She did a version of ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ that didn’t
leave a dry eye in the festival…she sung from her toes and we gave her a
standing golf clap!!! After
scaming a cab ride in front of 50,000 other concert goers that didn’t
know what the hell they were doing, we cleaned up and ate oysters, shrimp
and soft shell crabs at Pascal Menalli’s-a recommended Satch favorite.
After dinner, we ventured back to the hotel, made a pass through
Harrah’s and Nads was a big winner.
It was here that he was heard to exclaim,
“Elvis! I want to do
Elvis….”
Day two started a bit slower, and the crowds
were twice what they were on Friday.
We got to the festival after eating at another Satch favorite,
Mother’s for a tremendous PoBoy and some Bloody Mary’s.
We walk up and there’s this 50-person line waiting to get in. We of course, “can do no wrong in this city” and get
right in. Helpful
hint-don’t wait for breakfast, go around the side and you’ll get right
in at their new lunch facility. Off
to the festival, where the big draw was Jimmy Buffett.
After seeing him at the Woodlands a week prior, we were just
hanging out and giggling quite a bit.
People watching was extraordinary, music was tremendous.
Once again, we get out of fest with little trouble, again avoiding
the cab lines and getting right to the hotel!
Night number two was do the French quarter night.
Satches recommend a new sushi bar-Samarai Sushi!
Most excellent! Then
we hit Bourbon Street-pretty crowded, but no boobs in sight!
Ventured down to Margaritaville, and yes, you got it!
Buffett was in the house. After
scaming the cover charge, we are there to watch Jimmy play a couple of
tunes including a version of
‘On Broadway’ that was most excellent!
Only 100 people or so in the club!
A most excellent evening! We
then partied the night away in the quarter and got to bed by 4!
Late checkout and home to Houston!
No jail time served! We
are going to start a tour service for fellow Satches who want to have a
good time in N’awlins….there are no better people to be your guides
through sin city!
